In 2009 New York City held it’s first Fashion’s Night Out; an event filled with shopping, celebrities, and entertainment. Now, there are over 1,600 cities participating in the event. Last year, Linda D’Alessio, from D’Alessio Gallery in Bar Harbor, had the idea to bring this event to Bar Harbor, ME.
“I had read an article, I think in Vogue or The New York Times,” she said. After reading the article D’Alessio was inspired.”I decided that last year Bar Harbor should get on board and do this. It seemed like fun. It’s a little bit after Labor Day, when stores slow down a little bit. Shoppers can think about doing it, stores can think about doing it and it was just an amazing success last year.”
This year Bar Harbor Fashion Night Out is back, and bigger than last year. They have doubled the amount of merchants and restaurants that will be participating.
“There will be approximately 35 locations participating; restaurants and bars will be having drink specials and retail shops will have giveaways and promotions,” said Patti Savoie, another coordinator for the event.
There will also be local designers participating in the event this year. One of the goals of Fashion’s Night Out is to bring attention to local clothing designers, jewelry makers, and artists. The event’s success last year has led founders to be optimistic about the future of the event.
D’Alessio is looking to form a committee in Bar Harbor, to focus on bringing art and events to the area. She wants to keep growing Fashion Night Out, hoping to get local Maine designers to feature their designs in fashion shows in the Village Green.
“So much of Fashion Night Out is about people being creative and showing off their goods,” she said.
The event will occur from 6 to 10 p.m. in downtown Bar Harbor. To get a complete list of participating locations, or to get more information about the event visit the Fashion Night Out Facebook page, or the website.
