SWAPmaine holiday soiree, a new style of boutique shopping

Are you going to a holiday party? Out for New Years? Maybe just looking to freshen up your wardrobe? Well, SWAPmaine has something for you. Their SWAP soiree is just around the corner; Wednesday, December 5 to be exact, and the organizers are sure there will be clothes to catch your eye. Laura Duplissis, organizer and blogger, talked a bit about the swap in an interview.

Unlike past swaps, this one is going to be smaller and more intimate, with a cap of 75 people. The focus is on higher end pieces such as name brand clothing in excellent condition, gently used vintage, clean shoes and bags, and jewelry. Each attendee brings 5 pieces of good, swappable clothing and leaves with 5 new pieces.

“Think small this time and bring some of your best stuff. In return, you’ll leave with five amazing new items that you will love,” said Duplissis.

What should you and shouldn’t you bring to the SWAP soiree? Underwear, socks, tights, etc. is not accepted said Duplissis, she recommends bringing pieces that aren’t too high end, but are a little nicer.

“A J. Crew sweater, vintage cashmere, or a cool vintage dress. Anything that’s in good condition that is a little more special. The collection will be a bit smaller, but it will be nicer, cooler pieces.”

SWAPmaine is organized by several local bloggers: Alexandra Munier (Broke 207), Laura Serino (Fore Front Fashion), Ashley Jordan (Sweet William), Laura Duplissis (sweeter salt), and Kate Sullivan Jones (Sweet Disorder). The bloggers/organizers will be transforming the Mariner’s Church Banquet Hall in Portland into a boutique style shopping experience, complete with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails from the cash bar.

“As always, Goodwill gets all of the proceeds and any clothes we have left over,” she said. “It’s supporting a great cause and it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s essentially a win-win.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. for clothing to be dropped off on December 5th, and the swap begins promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased ahead of time; no walk-ins will be accepted.
